Onward and Upward

Ingram Micro’s new board of directors (left to right): Bharat Bhise, President and CEO of Bravia Capital; Larry Boyd, our former General Counsel; Bill Humes our former CFO; Board Chairman Adam Tan, HNA Group Vice Chairman and CEO; Alain Monié, Ingram Micro CEO; and Jim McGovern, former under secretary and acting secretary of the U.S. Air Force.

This month we celebrated new roles for some of our senior leaders, highlighting Ingram Micro’s commitment to develop and promote from within. After a combined total of 35 years, Chief Financial Officer Bill Humes and General Counsel Larry Boyd traded in their executive hats to take positions on Ingram Micro’s board of directors, where they will continue to lend their experience and insight. With these changes, “we’re fortunate to have Gina Mastantuono and Augusto Aragone step up as CFO and general counsel, respectively, demonstrating the depth of our senior leadership team,” said CEO Alain Monié.

Looking Back

Humes joined in 1998 as senior director of financial planning, rapidly rose through the ranks and was named CFO in 2004. Larry joined us in 2002 as senior vice president of U.S. Legal and was promoted to general counsel four years later.

“What stands out for me over the past 18 years is the people,” Bill said. “There have been tremendous highs negotiating transformational acquisitions such as BrightPoint or ringing the opening bell at the NYSE. There have also been absolutely crazy times…trying to catch a last-minute flight to close a big deal or difficult discussions with bankers during multi-hundred million dollar bond offerings. But ultimately what I take with me is the tremendous interactions I had every day with our associates.”

Bill continued, “Our finance organization has only grown stronger over the past several years as we have hired great, while also implementing better processes to drive our global business and support stronger financial performance. I leave confident that the finance team is in excellent hands with Gina at the helm and I look forward to watching Ingram Micro continue to broaden its vision of helping the world Realize the Promise of Technology.”

Some of Larry’s most memorable moments involve attempted posturing by the other side in deal negotiations. “When we were negotiating the Tech Pacific deal, they seated us at a long conference table, on the 50th floor of a Sydney office tower, with a commanding view of the harbor from the bridge and opera house all the way out to the Headlands,” Larry recalls. “Absolutely breathtaking and intended by the other side to be a bit distracting as we negotiated for more than a week.” Needless to say, these tactics were unsuccessful and Larry and the team delivered a highly favorable outcome for Ingram Micro.

“It has been a privilege and an honor, and an incredible amount of fun, to be Ingram Micro’s general counsel,” Larry said. “As Ingram Micro’s business expanded globally, we have built together a fine global legal team as required to support the company’s complex operations, with a strong and proven leader in Augusto Aragone. They clearly understand their role as the guardians of Ingram Micro’s assets and its integrity, and I am confident they will support the business and ensure we make the best deals possible, and to always do so in the right way.”

“With continued strong leadership and an unparalleled partner in the HNA Group, the future for Ingram Micro has never been brighter,” said Monié. “I hope you will join me in wishing Bill and Larry great success in their new board roles and congratulating Gina and Augusto on their well-deserved promotions.”
