Investing in the Cloud

Simply put, cloud computing means storing and accessing data and programs on the Internet rather than physically on your computer. From 2008 to 2014, cloud computing grew as an industry from $46 billion to $150 billion, and it’s predicted that more than 50 percent of information technology will be in the cloud over the next five to 10 years. A cloud delivery model is critical for Ingram Micro to bring the Promise of TechnologyTM to all businesses.

Embracing the Cloud
The Odin Service Automation platform enables businesses to sell and provide cloud services, and as the leading software in the industry, is leveraged by some of the world’s largest telecommunications providers, carriers and hosting companies. In 2013, Ingram Micro adopted and began licensing the platform, which forms the backbone of our Cloud Marketplace and lets our partners easily access a wide range of cloud solutions from a single portal.

After a successful partnership with Parallels, the platform’s developer, Ingram Micro’s acquisition of the Odin Service Automation platform in December 2015 was a natural next step in our cloud ecosystem strategy. The acquisition lets us accelerate the platform’s evolution and provide better services and functionality to our combined global customer base, including channel partners, hosting services and managed service providers.

Odin Service Automation customers also benefit from Ingram Micro’s global industry leadership and financial strength. They gain access to Ingram Micro’s strong commercial vendor relationships, robust portfolio of cloud services and top-tier application programming interface packages to further accelerate their success in the cloud.

Sky’s the Limit
By acquiring the Odin Service Automation platform, we also welcomed 500 new colleagues, many with specialized software engineering skills, to the Ingram Micro team. Ingram Micro now boasts more than 1,200 associates worldwide who are specifically dedicated to building and driving cloud innovation—another way we stand apart from the competition.

“Together, Ingram Micro and Odin offer the ideal blend of expertise, knowledge and commercial relationships,” says Nimesh Dave, executive vice president, global cloud computing. “It’s a game-changing combination with the potential to redefine how technology is delivered and consumed in the cloud.”
